School Bus Dispatcher (Afternoon Shift) – $25/hour – Full Time
Drivergent Transportation is a Metro Detroit school transportation company looking for motivated, customer-focused individuals who want to join our team transporting students.
As a School Bus Dispatcher for Drivergent Transportation, you will be on the front line. It will be your responsibility to dispatch all vehicles and drivers, ensure on-time performance of all services and monitoring staff performance to ensure we exceed customer expectations. Location/Schedule
• Headquarters (Fraser, MI)
• M-F 11:00 AM to 7:30 PM
• Occasional Saturday Shift (estimated to be once per month)

General Responsibilities
• Directs and monitors daily assignments; schedules drivers, bus attendants, and assigns vehicles to ensure daily coverage of all routes, field trips, and charter work
• Ensure direct and indirect daily activities of drivers and bus attendants are assigned and accomplished on- time
• Communicate all relevant details of driving assignments to drivers to ensure proper execution
• Assist drivers with routing directions and direct them to perform special services when required
• Counsels and coaches’ drivers and attendants
• Handles telephone and radio calls
• Responds to emergency calls, facilitates emergency response network, coordinates mechanical service repair, and assigns replacement buses and drivers when there is a problem with a route
• Notifies district and building personnel of all changes in route assignments, emergency situations, accidents, breakdowns or any other event that will disrupt service
• Serves as primary communication liaison with major contracted customer
• May handle charter reservations, billing, or driver payroll
• Provides solutions to drop-off and pick-up problems
• Handle back-up driver duties or perform miscellaneous clerical duties as needed
• Completes assignment of special projects
• Assists with supervision of day-to-day operations
• Maintains route documentation and records (relevant contract requirements, school information, student data, route changes, relevant maps, vehicle details, bus assignments, driver details) for the purpose of providing accurate and reliable information to customers and complies with district and state requirements
• Coordinates vehicle service and mechanical repairs with Maintenance Supervisor to assure uninterrupted service delivery
• Maintains high compliance to dispatch standard operating procedures
• Handles customer concerns and requests for information in an expeditious and professional manner
• Escalates unresolved issues to management as appropriate
• Other duties as assigned
Job Qualifications
• High school diploma or GED. Some college education a plus
• Minimum two-years prior dispatch experience
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Undergo pre-employment and random drug testing by DOT regulations
• Have and maintain eligible driving record per all applicable client district policies and state/federal laws
• Must pass State and Federal Criminal Background Check per MDE regulations and Client District policies
• Ability to pass DOT physical requirements and obtain valid DOT medical card
• Must obtain and maintain a valid Michigan Commercial Driver’s License (B) with valid P and S endorsements
• Ability to take and pass Continuing Education Class (Advanced School Bus Driver Training) every 2 years
• Ability to multi-task in fast paced work environment
• Extensive knowledge of traffic rules and regulations
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to operate and navigate a full-size or special-need school bus
• Ability to effectively operate a GPS
• Ability to work outside in various climates and weather conditions
• Compliance with all applicable federal, state, county, district, and contract specific Driver requirements.
• Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office products (i.e. Excel; Word, Google sheets, etc.) and computerized routing software
• Knowledge of surrounding geographic areas to ensure effective and efficient routing.
• Ability to organize and prioritize time to balance conflicting demands related to customer care and dispatching.
• Ability to read and interpret documents and instructions from customers and other team members
• Ability to function with independence in a fast-paced environment, under substantial pressure
• Ability to operate two-way and emergency radio systems
• Ability to use office machines (fax, scanner, copier, zip drive, telephone system)
• Ability to read road and street maps
• Prior professional driving experience a plus
• Bi-lingual abilities a plus
